you have to know if you want to wear a coat that is really huge and baggy or one that's just loose. Oversized coats should be worn with the size of the armholes bigger than your normal size so you can wear a bulky sweater or jacket under it. If you want to wear an oversized coat that isn't too baggy, buy one in a style that will make your figure look slimmer. The coat should end at your natural waist and not go any further down to give you more shape in your tummy area.

if one buys a coat that is too bulky and it doesn't fit in the shoulders, I might suggest putting it on from the back. This makes for a more fluid silhouette. I find if the coat is long enough, then you can put your hands into the pockets if there are any or just simply clutch them together in front of you.

Some people like to wear oversized coats because they're comfortable and make you look slimmer or smaller, while other people wear them because they're looking to add some bulk to their frame. And every time I try one on, it's like I'm wearing my dad's coat from the 90s. It makes me feel like a child again — not in a good way — which isn't something that makes me want to buy it!

I would say that it is important to always wear a coat over something. If you have more than one item of clothing on underneath your coat, you may want to take some time at home before leaving to sort out which pieces can be safely worn more than once without being damaged and which ones will need to be laundered after each wearing. I think this type of consideration is important since most of us have limited closet space these days.
